Focus Hope program

Please note, this is an excellent program - people who are currently unemployed may be able to have the State pay for their tuition for this program.

The Information Technologies Center (ITC) provides education and training in the growing field of computer and information technology. Students prepare for industry certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA), Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), CompTIA-A+ and Network+ to begin careers as desktop technicians, network administrators, systems administrators and related jobs. More than 785 students have graduated since the ITC opened in 1999.

The program is well regarded by industry. Students frequently have the opportunity to gain hands-on work experience through internships and part time employment. Focus: HOPE partnerships with employers, such as EDS and Comcast, create new and maintain existing internships for students. It is accredited by ACCET (Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training).

Focus: HOPE offers three information technology programs. Depending on a student's familiarity with computers, he or she may be required to take prerequisite classes. Programs include:

Through the PC Technology [PCT] program, students develop the skills needed to support PCs and PC users. They learn how to maintain and upgrade PC hardware and operating systems such as Windows XP. This includes learning how to install and configure PC boards and peripherals as well as how to install and configure operating systems. Students also develop communication and customer service skills.

The PCT program, including the prerequisite courses, is offered part time for 26 weeks (520 hours) The PCT program prepares students for the MOS [Microsoft Office Specialist], Certified Business Professional-Customer Service and A+ certifications. Students receive vouchers to take these exams and can take these exams at the ITC, which is an authorized testing center.

The network administrator is the "glue" that keeps computer networks together and allows computers -- and the companies that depend on them -- to communicate. Network administration is a team-oriented, project-based discipline that requires physical and mental fitness, as well as the ability to think logically and solve problems. Graduates are prepared for entry level positions as network technicians, help desk technicians, and network control operators.

It is a 53-week program, leading to certifications in CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate), CompTIA A+, OS, and Network+. Desktop and Server Administration.

The Desktop and Server Technician provides technical support for the users or clients of a network. Work involves the smooth functioning, maintenance and upgrading of network servers' hardware, operating systems and server security. Upon completion of the program, students are qualified for entry-level positions as help desk technicians, PC technicians, and servert technicians.

The 53-week program prepares students for certifications in CompTIA A+ and Network+ and Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA).
